Education Minister John O’Dowd has cut the first sod on a refurbishment scheme at Ballyclare Secondary School. Total costs for the project are £3.737m.
In March 2013 the Minister announced that Ballyclare Secondary School had been successful under the School Enhancement Programme. The project includes the demolition of the existing Home Economics and
Administration Block to create a state-of-the art Home Economics suite, English and Geography Department and a Drama suite as well as a new entrance hall.
Speaking at the school the Minister said: “This is an exciting time for pupils and staff at Ballyclare Secondary School which will see welcome improvements to the school’s facilities.
“The new facilities will benefit the entire school and enhance the learning environment and ensure that Ballyclare Secondary School is well equipped to deliver the curriculum to the existing pupils and future generations.
“Projects like this one have been made possible through the School Enhancement Programme, which not only delivers benefits in the classroom, but also provides a boost to the local construction sector.”
Concluding the Minister said: “Improving the schools’ estate remains a key issue and I will continue to seek additional funds to ensure that this important area of work continues to get the priority it deserves.”
